I’ve been planning to get a new laptop for months now. My Dell, though a fine laptop is just too heavy for what I’ve been doing lately (lots of walking and cycling) and its screen is currently acting up.
I had been planning to get an iBook or a Powerbook, but now it doesn’t look like they are going to be updated in any meaningful way until early next year. I’ll probably still buy one next year, but in the meantime I’ve got a gorgeous new sony Vaio.
It’s got a 15.4″ widescreen, which is great for watching DVD’s on planes, but it’s mostly just standard Vaio goodness. Impressively thin and light. Came with a DVD burner too. I’m writing this post from it, running Ubuntu – which installed relatively painlessly. I suspect a Mac Mini in the near future will fulfill my Apple desires.

Flights and accomodation are all booked now. Worked out very well, will be flying direct from Dublin to Stuttgart and will have a good time cushion on both legs of the journey. I might see if a CAcert gathering can be coordinated during the conference. Also, unexpectadly, this arrived:
