New Laptop

Posted on June 13, 2005, under general.

I’ve been planning to get a new laptop for months now. My Dell, though a fine laptop is just too heavy for what I’ve been doing lately (lots of walking and cycling) and its screen is currently acting up.

I had been planning to get an iBook or a Powerbook, but now it doesn’t look like they are going to be updated in any meaningful way until early next year. I’ll probably still buy one next year, but in the meantime I’ve got a gorgeous new sony Vaio.

Sony Vaio

It’s got a 15.4″ widescreen, which is great for watching DVD’s on planes, but it’s mostly just standard Vaio goodness. Impressively thin and light. Came with a DVD burner too. I’m writing this post from it, running Ubuntu – which installed relatively painlessly. I suspect a Mac Mini in the near future will fulfill my Apple desires.

At least it has a proper screen ratio, none of this 4:3 mallarky…

Also, you can never furfill Apple desires. The first purchase you use to try and furfill such desires starts the Apple addiction… ;)

Portability is something I’ll be concentrating on when looking for a laptop in the near future. Where would you recommend shopping for a Sony Vaio?

I got mine in the Sony store in Stephen’s Green, where for some reason they had it even cheaper than the other Sony stores. They were probably getting rid of some.
